Born on October 22, 1957, in Aberdeen, Washington, Becky was the beloved daughter of George Delano Brown and Ida May Hurley. She grew up in Newberg, Oregon, alongside her three sisters—Donna, Martha, and Margaret—forming close, lifelong bonds with both her siblings and her parents. Becky graduated from Newberg High School and went on to attend Chemeketa and Portland Community College.
In her early twenties, Becky married and welcomed her only child, Arthur. She was a devoted and loving mother who always put her son’s needs first. After her marriage ended, Becky showed remarkable strength and determination, working hard to provide a stable and caring home as a single parent. Her devotion to her son, Arthur, shaped him into the amazing man he is today.
In the late 1980s, Becky began her career at OHSU, where she discovered a deep passion for the organization’s mission. For over 30 years, she became a highly respected colleague and professional, working in administration in support of the OHSU Foundation. Her dedication, knowledge, and steady presence left a lasting impact—so much so that additional staff was brought in months before her retirement to learn from her and carry on her work.
Above all, Becky’s greatest joy in life was her family—especially her two grandsons, Luke and Aiden. She adored them and took great pride in spending as much time with them as she could. To say that she spoiled her grandsons would be an understatement. Becky would often take the boys on adventures, creating lasting memories.
Becky also had a creative spirit and was an accomplished knitter. She found both joy and friendship in her regular knitting group, where she loved sharing stories and laughter with her close circle of friends. Becky and her best friend Lisa would spend hours together chatting and knitting, making beautifully crafted garments to share with her family and friends.
Becky was preceded in death by her parents. She is lovingly remembered by her son, Arthur, and daughter-in-law Lynn; her grandsons, Luke and Aiden; her sisters, Donna, Martha, and Margaret; and a host of nieces, nephews, and dear friends who will miss her deeply.
A celebration of Becky’s life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations in Becky’s memory to The Grotto of Southeast Portland.
