

Robert “Bob” Dean Butler was born on December 22, 1922 to Leon and Irene (Reimer) Butler in Walnut Iowa. Bob moved to the Northwest and then to Portland during his childhood. Bob attended the University of Portland where he majored in Business Administration. After college, Bob entered the Army. He served in World War II from 1943-1946. After World War II, he returned to Portland and built a career as an underwriter in the insurance industry.
Bob was a Northwesterner for most of his life. He was a fast pitch softball player and coach, and a member of the Fast Pitch Softball Hall of Fame. Bob was involved in the Sherwood Dog Training Club as well as the American Legion of Tigard. Family and friends knew him as a kind, warm and welcoming person.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Irene, sisters, Janice, Dorothy and Donna, grandson, Todd and the mother of his children, Beverly Butler. Bob is survived by his wife, Joeanne, brothers, Virgil and Larry, children, Nancy, Becky, Susie and Robbie, as well as seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, many nephews and nieces, his beloved miniature schnauzers and his koi fish.
There will be a public memorial service at Young’s Funeral Home in Tigard on Monday, October 15, 2012 at 12:00. A private committal service will be held at Willamette National Cemetery on Tuesday, October 16, 2012.The Reverend Donald Wilson will officiate.
