Bob was born November 30, 1936 in Gilman, CO to Raymond and Doris (Clark) Richardson. The family moved to Milwaukie, OR when Bob was four years old, and he was a 1954 graduate of Milwaukie High School. After attending college briefly, he left to work as a draftsman for Freightliner, and then was drafted into the Army. At a USO dance on August 6, 1959, he met Harriet Faron, who was then in nursing school, and in January of 1960 they were united in marriage at Avon-by-the-Sea, NJ.
While studying at Portland State (and earning a Bachelor’s in Applied Science in 1969), Bob went to work at Tektronix where he remained for fifteen years. He continued his education with a M.B.A from the University of Portland in 1980. Bob went on to work as a Mechanical Engineer in manufacturing and sales for an additional twenty plus years.
Bob loved fishing, photography (the family has thousands of slides he took over decades), and cars – looking at, working on (he had restored a Triumph TR3), and watching races. He also took great pride in his DIY skills. Whether fixing or re-making something, his skills around the house meant few calls to contractors. He was also a former member of the Elks and Toastmasters, and enjoyed listening to jazz and blues.
Bob will be missed by his wife of 54 years, Harriet Richardson of King City, OR; their children Robert Richardson, Jr and wife Lisa of Beaverton, Lori Houlette and husband Brian of Beaverton, and Greg Richardson and wife Devi of Royce City, TX; a sister, Judy Yoast and one niece and one nephew; nine grandchildren, Eric, Jessica, and Andrea Richardson; Jacob and Niklas Houlette; and Sabrina, Sierra, and C.J. Richardson; Monica Brown; and three great-grandchildren.
Bob was preceded in death by a son, William Richardson. At his request, no service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Association would be greatly appreciated by the family.
Arrangements under the direction of Young's Funeral Home, Tigard, OR.
