To our friends, our colleagues, to our family and others who shared a path with our beloved son, Shane Michael Kohfield ...
Shane fought his last battle on June 18, 2025; he collapsed while attempting to seek medical care. He was rushed to Meridian Park Hospital Emergency Department where attempts to resuscitate him failed.
Shane served in the Marines from 2005 to 2012 deploying to Iraq twice during this time. He served with great honor and distinction in the period of time shortly after 9/11. Sometime during this period he gave a part of himself for the defense of this country. He was discharged in 2012 still fighting to offer all that he could give.
Starting in 2012, his closest friends, soldiers, family, and his mother shared in his battle. Throughout this time he never wavered in a commitment to serve and protect. Continuing to give whatever he could, he sought many opportunities to try to make other people’s lives better. Despite his multiple medical challenges he worked, painted and used his mind. He looked for cures in multiple sclerosis and other areas of medical science. He wrote papers and theories that only he could really understand. He looked for ways to help the disabled, and comfort the sick. His paintings brought thousands of dollars to his favorite charity Battle Buddies. His generosity, persistence, creativity, but mostly his courage struck the hearts of everyone who knew and loved him. Those who saw him grow into the man he was from childhood to a soldier, and whose battles never really stopped.
A month ago, with failing health he had returned back to his hometown where friends and family tried desperately for a diagnosis and treatment. Attempts to revive Shane took place in the Emergency Room, where he had volunteered prior to his service in the military. In the same emergency room where he shared part of his own childhood and curiosity and later service.
This soldier was loved. This man was brave. This friend gave from his heart. This son left with a piece of all of us.
Thank you Shane for all the courage that you showed us. You fought this battle so well son. We wish you peace in Jesus arms.
