Born March 18, 1958, in Portland, Oregon, to Ken and June Peterson, Tami grew up with her brother, Brad, in a warm home that shaped her creativity, hospitality, and sense of adventure. In the early 1970's, she committed her life to Jesus—a quiet, decisive moment that became the foundation of all that followed. Her joy, gentleness, and generous spirit reflected her devotion to Him.
A defining part of Tami’s life was her bond with the Fisher family. Her friendship with Sue Fisher grew into a lifelong sisterhood and, through that connection, she met and married the love of her life, Allyn Walter, in 1978. Their 47 years together were marked by devotion, partnership, and faithful service.
Tami delighted in her family. She cherished her sons, Philip and Greg, and poured her heart into being a grandmother. Her home was always a place of beauty and welcome—an expression of her gift for creating comfort and belonging.
From 1989 until her retirement at the end of 2024, Tami served faithfully on the staff of the Home Building Association of Greater Portland. For decades she was a trusted, one‑of‑a‑kind employee who handled a wide range of administrative duties — perhaps most notably serving as the Association’s “Member Concierge,” the friendly face and first contact for builders and members seeking information or support. Her loyalty, reliability, and warm professionalism made her indispensable; to many she wasn’t just staff — she was part of the heart and soul of the organization.
Tami was always a vibrant part of her church community. Whether serving or simply sharing a warm smile, she helped build up the people around her and brought joy to every gathering. Her love for God and others radiated through all she did.
Tami is survived by her husband of 47 years, Allyn; her sons, Philip (Avery) and Greg (Brittany); her seven grandchildren; and her brother, Brad. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ken and June.
