Victor Carl Blust was born in Portland, Oregon to Karl and Frances (Klink) Blust on February 16, 1932. He went to Garden Home Grade School and graduated from Tigard High School in 1950. After high school, he joined the US Air Force from 1951-1955, serving in the Korean War. In 1956, he married Corrine Mardell Iverson. They would divorce in 1985. They had two daughters, Victoria Lynn and Carol Anne whom they raised in a home Vic and Corrine build next door to his parents in Garden Home. After his parents passed away, Vic would live out his life in the home his dad bought in 1922. He worked as a USPS mail handler from 1959 until retirement in 1992. He was a proud member of the American Legion Post 158.
He enjoyed many sports, especially football and baseball, relishing both the games and his teammates during high school. He also was a member of the ski team during school and caddied whenever he could at the Portland Golf Club. Among his favorite teams to follow were the Oregon State Beavers, going to the Fiesta Bowl in 2001 to watch his Beavers beat Notre Dame. He liked to read and keep well informed. His sharp mind would recall deep knowledge of Garden Home and surrounding area and its citizens. Vic also loved to travel and stay at his condo at Rockaway Beach, Oregon. He loved German food.
He is survived by his daughters, Vikki Blanchard and Carol (Doug) Twedt; five grandchildren, Bethany, McKenna, Ashley, Bryce, and Austin; and numerous cousins in Germany. A graveside service will be held at Willamette National Cemetery on April 4, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Salvation Army Veterans and Family Center.
