Wayne Fred Shoultz, born November 5, 1945, passed away on March 15, 2026, after a heroic battle with cancer. He spent his final days in Portland, Oregon, surrounded by the love and devotion of his wife of 35 years, Patricia Shoultz, who survives him.
Wayne lived a life defined by courage, hard work, and unwavering loyalty. As a young man, he proudly joined the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, answering the call to serve his country with honor. The discipline, strength, and integrity he carried as a Marine stayed with him throughout his life.
After returning home, Wayne built a long and respected career as an Engineer with Southern Pacific Railroad, where he was known for his reliability, skill, steady presence and sense of humor. Never one to shy away from adventure, he also spent a decade as a commercial salmon and tuna fisherman, embracing the rugged beauty and challenge of life on the water.
Wayne found his greatest joy outdoors—fishing, camping, and hunting with family and friends who became like family. He was the kind of man who showed up without being asked, who offered help before anyone knew they needed it. He never complained, even in the face of illness, and met every chapter of his life with quiet dignity and remarkable strength.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Patricia Shoultz; his brother, Gary Shoultz; his stepdaughters, Brooke Richards and Kim Spear; three nieces—Robin Segerdahl, Christine McCarthy, and Rhonda Forster; and one nephew, Shane Shoultz. He is also survived by two step grandchildren, Tanner Spear and Sydney Wilson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Larkin J. Shoultz and Mabel E. Kerr Shoultz, and by his brothers Dale, Duane, and Glenn.
His family and friends will forever remember his generosity, steadfastness, and the quiet, powerful way he lived his values. He was a Marine until the end—courageous, loyal, and strong. Wayne’s legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched with his kindness and unwavering spirit.
Celebration of life to follow. Remembrances in his name may be made to the American Cancer Society.
