William Jay Coffey Sr.

Bill was born in Warrenton, Oregon to Jay and Helen Coffey. He was raised in Warrenton and he graduated from Warrenton High School. After high school he entered the U.S. Air Force. He was stationed in Shaftesbury, Dorset, England. While in England he met his future wife Shirley. In 1954 they moved to Oregon where they raised four children. Bill worked for the Owens Illinois Glass Company for a number of years. He then ventured out on his own, owning and operating various service stations in the Portland area. He enjoyed working on automobiles, model cars and model airplanes. Bill enjoyed watching his son, Darryl, play junior hockey and soccer in high school. He most appreciated spending time with his family. Bill and Shirley shared many happy times at the Gateway Elks Lodge. Bill is survived by his wife, Shirley, children, Bill Jr. (Chuck), Douglas (Karen), Julie (Douglas) and Darryl (Lisa), grandchildren, Jason, Darryl Eric (Melissa), Shane, Nicole (Jacob), Jeffery, Justin and Kayla, four great grandchildren, sister-in-law, Patricia and niece, Charlene. A Celebration of Life was held on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at Young’s Funeral Home in Tigard. A private inurnment will be held at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.
