Spirit filled, faithful vessel of God’s Word, artistic, caring, kind, loving.
and graceful dancer. A true gift to us all. These are just a few of the words
friends and family use to describe Yvonne Krill, who ascended to Heaven
Friday, March 4, 2022, after being diagnosed with lymphoma nine months
prior.
Yvonne was born October 4, 1935, in Cleveland, Ohio at St. Luke’s Hospital to Adrienne and Paul DePetheo. She adopted several names along the way, including Baptism, Confirmation, step dad Don David, grandparents Erwin and Aranka Bolgar and Hawaiian Grandma. She had a younger brother Tim and three step siblings, Jay, Mark and Mary.
Yvonne joined a ballet troupe and danced the prima ballerina role of Clara in the Nutcracker at age twelve. She met her husband of fifty years, John (Jack) Aloysius Krill, at a dance, accepting a request to join him on the dance floor, even though she just had a leg cast removed from a ski accident. They married September 7, 1957, in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan and moved to Fullerton, California where they had six kids, and then transferred to Lake Oswego, Oregon in 1965 and had two more kids. They were devout members of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church and helped with many programs including Grade School, Sunday School, Catechism and Marriage classes. Yvonne got a tip from a Nun to attend a prayer meeting which sparked Baptism in the Holy Spirit and charismatic renewal that became the bedrock of her life. She shared many spiritual gifts allowing God’s love to shine through her, most notably the frequent gift of Prophecy that allowed God’s healing word to be heard by so many people.
As mother of eight children born over eleven years, everything was done at scale, from grocery shopping
at Prairie Market to cooking meals which were always delicious, to lunch sacks lined up ready to grab as
kids ran out the door on their way to school, always with clean clothes, holes sewn and a quick wet finger
to fix a protruding hair. Yvonne raised her family to be confident and ready for anything, she was honored
as Oregon Mother of the Year in 1990. As grandkids and great grandkids came along, Tutu spent months
preparing for her favorite time of year, Christmas, assembling unique presents for each and every person,
and hosting gatherings for her brood of fifty at Mary’s Woods’ auditorium complete with a live nativity
scene re-enactment by family members after dinner and opening presents which brought her much joy.
Yvonne joined a bowling league with her three best friends, Karen Medak, Nadine Vanderzanden and
Verna Wilson. With the kids within earshot at the Palisades Lanes’ daycare room and an inspired team
name, The Holy Rollers, she rocked the pins with many strikes and earned a season average of over 200.
Her artistic interests continued and she started a hobby to make handmade greeting cards, mostly from
remnants of other cards or items she found throughout her daily ventures, every card meticulously
constructed for the recipient and occasion, she made over 2,000 cards and many are prized one-of-a-kind keepsakes. With her ballet background, she assisted a Marylhurst class to learn and teach Sacred Dance, which she performed at many celebrations including Sunday Mass. She often had the spotlight on her, but always reflected the gift of God’s saving grace back to the people around her. Even with her final bow and curtsey, one she often gave as a good-bye gesture, she shared a warm hearted “Thank you for an enjoyable experience.”
Yvonne is survived by her eight children, twins Matt and Terry, Kathy, Margaret, John, Clare, Paul, and
Mark, twenty-two grandkids and twelve great grandkids, along with fourteen spouses.
