Antoinette Marie Cuomo

On July 7, 2014, Antoinette Cuomo, age 96, passed peacefully. Antoinette was the youngest of five sisters: Elvira Modesto, Anna Julio, Annuniziata Castronova, Carmela Piuni, all of whom has predeceased her, and her younger surviving brother Frank Olga.

Antoinette immigrated to the United States from Italy at age 4. She was educated at St. Leo's School in Baltimore's Little Italy District. Antoinette's family settled in the Highlandtown community in Baltimore where her father Eduardo and mother Ausilia opened a bakery making what many have touted as the "Best Italian Bread in Baltimore".

During World War II Antoinette, though barely five feet tall, worked at Sparrows Point in true Rosy the Riveter" style, operating an overhead crane in the steel mill. In 1946 Antoinette married her husband Cuomo after his discharge from the Army. Antoinette began dating Phillip at age 15. Antoinette and Phillip moved from Highlandtwon in 1957 to Parkside Drive in the Herring Run Community, where they remained until their relocation in 1992 to Timonium, Antoinette also worked as a seamstress for House of Worstertex, Haas Tayloring and Joseph A. Bank.

Antoinette is survived by her husband of 68 years, Phillip and four children: Nancy Cuomo (and James Rohrbaugh her longtime friend), Bernadette Cunningham (and her husband Glenn), Dennis Cuomo (and his wife JoAnn) and Joseph Cuomo (and his wife Susan). She is also survived by ten grandchildren, and nine reat-grandchildren. Antoinette is further survived by many loving nieces, nephews and wonderful friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the Lemmon Funeral Home, of Dulaney Valley Inc., 10 W. Padonia Road (at York Road) Timonium, MD 21093 on Wednesday, 2-8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 10 at 10am in St. Joseph Church, 100 Church Lane, Cockeyville, MD 21030. Interment Dualney Valley Memorial Gardens. Donations may be made in her memory to Our Lady of Pompei Church, 3600 Claremont Street, Baltimore, MD 21224.
