Audrey was the only daughter of John Elmer Berl and Marie James. She graduated from Eastern High School in 1943 and she continued reunions with several classmates who also lived at Edenwald. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She attended Barton Stratton College where she graduated with a secretarial degree. Audrey and Jim met at a dance at the YMCA and continued their love of dancing throughout their lives together. They were married on June 10, 1950, and they began their married life in Northwood, Baltimore. They relocated to Loch Raven Village where they began raising their four children. Audrey was a loving mom who was active in her community and served as Treasurer of the Loch Raven Recreation Council. When the family moved to Timonium, she continued her community service by working with the Timonium Recreation Council and the Highsteppers Band Group as well as a band parent for the Dulaney Marching Band. As a mother of four, her daily routines kept us organized and active. She enjoyed watching the Orioles and the Ravens while eating crabs.
Audrey had a deep faith and served many years as President of the Ruth and Esther Circles at Timonium United Methodist Church. Her church activities included chairing many bazaars and fashion shows which reflected her love of fashion. Audrey and Jim were also active in Boumi Temple and the Shrine. They enjoyed traveling with their friends. Once they were empty-nesters, Audrey and Jim moved to Belmont Forest Condominiums where they established another new group of friends.
Their last move brought them to the Edenwald Retirement Community where they quickly established many wonderful friendships with residents and staff. In her friendly, serving spirit, Audrey became the chairperson of the Edenwald thrift store. After 10 years, she retired as Mrs. Nifty Thrifty. Coffee and Conversation at Edenwald was another way she used her gift of hospitality to welcome and visit with residents. Audrey was a resident of Edenwald for 20 years, a record for the community.
Her smile could brighten any room and we knew she was on point with her sense of humor. Audrey had a love for life, her family and the many celebrations of life events.
