

Don Fischer, 87, of Cockeysville, died Friday, August 28, 2015, at his home, with family by his side. Born January 20, 1928, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late William N. D. Fischer and Mildred Fitzpatrick Fischer. He was the husband of Frances L. Fischer of Randallstown.
He graduated from Friends School in 1948 and started his own trucking business in Baltimore. Drafted in 1952, to Co. “C” 33rd Med. Tank Battalion CCB 2nd Armored Division “Hell on Wheels”, he served in Wiesbaden Germany until 1954 and then Leader for the Office of the Director of Selective Service of Baltimore until 1960.
Upon his return to the states, he continued his career in the construction business. His work included projects in Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Columbia Maryland, Annapolis Mall and the CSX Automobile Distribution Center in Jessup Maryland. As Ratrie, Robbins & Schweizer’s Project Superintendent of the CSX project, he won the 1991 National Asphalt Paving Association Award for best HMA (Hot Mix Asphalt) pavement in the nation.
He was a member of the Ensign C. Markland Kelly, Jr. Memorial Post # 0174 of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 10074 where he served as Post Jr. Vice Commander 1983-84.
His childhood church was Holy Comforter Church of Govans where he attended Sunday School, was baptized and confirmed: later became a member of Hunt’s United Methodist Church on Old Court and Joppa Roads with his family.
For the past 20 years, he and his wife, Frann, of 43 years, spent time between their home in Cockeysville and Surfside Beach, South Carolina.
Don was the loving husband of Frances L. Fischer for 43 years; Devoted father of Mark D. Fischer and his wife Robin, David A. Fischer and his wife Erin, Michael S. Fischer and his wife Michelle; dear brother of Diane Fredrick; Cherished grandfather of Michelle Fischer Kokosinski, Justin Fischer, Kelley Jones, Hannah Fischer, and Collin Fischer; Great Grandfather of Evan, Adam, Zachary, Jacob, Mason, and Payton.
The family will receive friends at the LEMMON FUNERAL HOME OF DULANEY VALLEY INC., 10 W. Padonia Road (at York Road) Timonium, MD 21093 on Thursday from 6 to 8PM and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9PM.
A funeral service will be celebrated at the Funeral Home on Saturday, September 5 at 11AM. Interment Druid Ridge Cemetery.
