On Sunday, August 10, 2025, Dr. David A. Power peacefully passed away. He was the beloved husband of Kathleen Rose Power (nee Browne) for 61 years; loving father of Philip Power and his wife Joanne Power; cherished Pop Pop of Bradley Power and his fiancé Katie Brown, Lindsey Power and her fiancé Ryan Brown and Collin Power and his partner Debra Loh. David is also survived by other loving family and friends and was predeceased by his parents Edward and Laura Power and his brother Donald Power.
Born in Seattle, Washington, and raised in Silver Spring, Maryland, David carried a deep love for learning and the natural world throughout his life. In addition to earning both his undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Maryland, culminating in a PhD in microbiology, he served proudly as a navigator in the United States Air Force. His scientific mind was matched only by his dedication to service—whether volunteering with the local Kiwanis Club, his condo association, lending his skills at Martin State Air Force Museum, or helping preserve the beauty of Oregon Ridge Nature Center. He believed in leaving the world better than he found it. He was a voracious reader, especially of history, and could bring past events to life in conversation. Yet, of all his passions, his greatest joy came from his family. He adored his grandchildren, lovingly creating journals that chronicled every milestone and accomplishment in their lives. To those who knew him, David was a steward, a storyteller with a dry sense of humor, and a man whose curiosity and care knew no bounds.
