

Harold Robert Weiss, MD, Orthopedic Surgeon, died on June 28, 2021. He was 91. Born in Baltimore, Maryland to August and Verna Weiss. After graduating from Baltimore Polytechnic Institute in 1947 and the University of Maryland in 1950, Harold furthered his education and graduated from the University of Maryland School of Medicine in 1954.
Harold served his Residency at the University of Maryland, Baltimore from 1954-1956, which was immediately followed by serving in the US Navy from 1956-1958, stationed at the Naval Submarine Base in New London, CT. While stationed in CT he met Matilda L. Watrous and they were married in 1957.
After leaving the Navy, Harold served a Residency at Grace New Haven Hospital, in New Haven, CT from 1958-1959 and a Residency at Newington Children’s Hospital, In Newington, CT in 1960.
Following Harold and Matilda moving to Baltimore in 1961, Harold opened a private practice as an Orthopedic Surgeon where he continued to work until 1985. Dr. Weiss also worked as an Emergency Room Physician at Greater Baltimore Medical Center for many years.
Dr. Weiss and his wife were members of First English Evangelical Lutheran church (Charles and 39th St., Baltimore) for many years. His many interests included tennis, photography, traveling, skiing, hiking, climbing, Central and South American archaeology, birds of prey, foreign languages, painting, wood carving and exotic plants.
Dr. Weiss was predeceased in death by his parents, and his wife Matilda in 2017, following 59 years of marriage. He is survived by his sons, Robert Weiss and his wife JoAnne, both of Forest Hill, MD and Austin Weiss and his wife Rebecca, both of Aspen, CO., and his grandchildren, Caitlin, Scott, Austin, Bridget and Logan, Anders and Elsie.
