Joan M. Howard

Joan M. Howard (Dawson), 79, died on Sunday, October 14, 2018 in her home surrounded by her family. The family will receive friends at Lemmon Funeral Home of Dulaney Valley, Inc., 10 W. Padonia Road (at York Road) Timonium, Maryland 21093 on Thursday, October 18, 2018 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. A Funeral Service will be celebrated at the funeral home on Friday October 19, 2018 at 2:30 pm.

Interment Mays Chapel United Methodist Church.

Born June 10, 1939, in Berkley Springs, West Virginia, Joan was the daughter of the late Granville and Margaret (Waugh) Dawson. Joan built a home and raised her children on Hollow Road, Cockeysville, Maryland. She worked at the Lykos Pharmacy, Cockeysville Pharmacy, McCarthy Hicks, Macys, and the Reisterstown Westminster Moose Lodge. Joan moved to Shrewsbury to be closer to her family. Joan enjoyed warm summer nights and eating crabs outside next to the pool. She also loved gardening, visiting the Hollywood Casino and spending time with her grandchildren.

Joan is survived by three daughters: Joanie Mason (Andy Bobby) of New Freedom, PA, Linda (Bernard) Boit, of Ellicott City, MD, and Beth (Ed) Kemp of Shrewsbury, PA. She was “Nana” to grandchildren: Melissa (Chris) Shaffer, Tim (Macy) Kemp, Autumn and April Boit, and three great grandchildren: Sierra Crone, Mason Spearing, and Grant Shaffer. She is also survived by one brother, Dennis Dawson of Baltimore, Maryland and several nieces and nephews. She was excited to be welcoming another great grandchild and first great-great grandchild in March 2019. Joan was predeceased by grandson Stephen Kemp and son-in-law Alan Mason and brothers, Vernon, Melvin (Doc) and her twin brother Larry.
