Kathryn was born in Maryland on April 24, 1959, the beloved daughter of Chrispen Frederick Preston and Louise Antoinette Haney Preston. She attended Northwestern High School, graduating in 1977. With a lifelong love of learning and history, she went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in history from Roanoke College, followed by a Master of Divinity from Gettysburg Theological Seminary.
Kathryn devoted many years of faithful service to the United Methodist Church, ministering throughout Southern Maryland and Baltimore County. Her calling was rooted in compassion, thoughtful listening, and a deep commitment to community, and she touched countless lives through her ministry. After retiring from the ministry, Kathryn spent two decades working as an insurance consultant.
In retirement, Kathryn embraced life fully. She loved to travel, especially to Paris and New York City—and was a proud supporter of Baltimore sports, cheering faithfully for the Baltimore Ravens and Baltimore Orioles. She delighted in being retired and filling her days with the things she loved most.
A creative spirit, Kathryn enjoyed cross stitch, watercolor painting, and diamond art. In recent years, she found special joy helping on her niece’s farm, where she loved arranging flowers and caring for the animals. Her love for animals was lifelong, and she shared her home with two Dalmatians as well as cats over the years.
Kathryn cherished her friendships deeply. She especially enjoyed gathering with her ladies’ group at the Ashland Café, a close-knit circle that had met together for more than four years through AA, offering each other unwavering support, laughter, and love.
Music was another constant joy in her life. She loved the music of the 1960s and 1970s, and folk music from the Indigo Girls, and she delighted in attending concerts throughout the years.
Kathryn will be remembered for her gentle strength, her faith-filled heart, her creativity, and her ability to make others feel seen and valued. She leaves behind a legacy of service, kindness, and love that will continue to live on in all who were blessed to know her.
