Jackie had many roles in the lives of those around her. Some of her most known names were mom, grandma, wife, aunty, sister, friend and prayer warrior.
Jackie accomplished many things in her 78 years of life. For over five years, Jackie volunteered for TBN Ministries as a prayer partner. As a prayer partner, Jackie received calls from viewers at home. It wasn’t uncommon for her kids to come home from school while Jackie was praying over a stranger via phone call.
The first step in her professional career was as a realtor for 10 years. Her best customer was her husband, Ray Helton. On the morning of January 12, 1990, Jackie headed in to take the Arizona State Bar exam. As she entered the testing facility she learned her daughter, Tracey, was in labor. Under the pressure of her first grandchild being earth-side at any moment, Jackie completed and passed the Arizona State Bar and made it to witness the arrival of Gabriel. From there she spent 18 years working for the State of Arizona as a Regional Manager for Child Support Services. For five years, Jackie carpooled to work with her youngest, Tracey. The two would avoid bridges, like the I-10 to I-17 overpass due to Jackie’s fears. On the days that the overpass wasn’t avoidable Jackie would hold her breath while they passed over and Tracey would tease Jackie’s lung compacity by slowing down.
Jackie always had a sense of adventure. Over the course of her 54 years of marriage to Ray, the two traveled to Hawaii, New York, Jersey, Alaska, New Zealand, the White Mountains and frequented Rosevelt Lake for family trips. Ray and Jackie also loved a good trip to the casino. Jackie would be content at the slot machines while Ray played alongside here or at the roulette table. After the passing of Ray in December 2020, Jackie continued to adventure. She went to Hawaii, she slid down water slides, picked up surfing and started setting fashion and hair trends.
Along with her sense of adventure one thing that never changed was her faith. Jackie was one of the most faithful people you could meet. Her children and grandchildren grew up with her love for Jesus always on display. She never missed an opportunity to speak the gospel into the lives of others. She was steadfast in faith. When she lost her parents, her sisters and her husband, she never wavered. One of Jackie’s favorite verses was Isiah 54:13 “All your children shall be taught by the Lord, and great shall be the peace of your children.” Jackie accomplished the message of that scripture. She taught her children, their children, and everyone around her about Jesus and great is our peace to see her reunited with her parents, sisters, friends, husband, and Jesus.
Jackie is survived by her son Wade, her daughters, Audra and Tracey, her 13 grandchildren and her 11 great grandchildren.
