Janet Willene Nixon, 65, passed away unexpectedly on March 4, 2021. She was born in Ajo, AZ and graduated from AHS, class of 1973. After 3 years at ASU, she attended Braniff School of Airlines in Dallas, Texas. America West, a new airline in Tempe, accepted her into their 2nd group of flight attendants and she was employed there until the merger with USAir and most recently flying for American Airlines. Spending her career on the night flights, by choice, she earned the nickname “vampire”. Willene never went to “work” because she loved her job which allowed her to interact with all kinds of people. She seemed to make friends with everyone and had the ability to learn a person’s life history without them even realizing it.
Early in her career, she took the opportunity to travel the world and return with souvenirs from places like Egypt, Brazil, Australia, Costa Rica, France, Canada, Mexico and more. Recently, she preferred spending the summers in Flagstaff.
Willene will be remembered most for her giving and caring personality, high energy and ability to turn a happy hour into a party. Simply stated….she was lots of fun!
Willene leaves behind her “boyfriend” of 44 years, Ted Morales, 4 horses, 2 dogs and 10 hens and a rooster, sisters Jeanie Nixon and Elaine Nixon Davis and brother-in-law, Glenn Davis. She was preceded in death by her parents Bill and Bertie Nixon of Ajo and her beloved dog, Yazzie.
Condolences can be sent to www.AdvantageCrystalRose.com.
A gathering to celebrate her life will be planned in the future.
