Ofelia Hernandez Castillo, 83, of Phoenix, Arizona, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2026.

Ofelia was born in Mexico City, Mexico, and carried the spirit and resilience of her roots with her throughout her life. She eventually made her home in Phoenix, where she built a life centered on family, laughter, faith, and creativity.

She is lovingly survived by her children, Ofelia Castillo Salas and Clemente Hernandez Castillo. She is also survived by her siblings Eleazar, Arnulfo, Yolanda, María Elena, Enriqueta, and Beatriz, along

with many nieces and nephews whom she never considered anything less than her own children. Family was the center of her world, and there was always room for one more at her table and in her heart; it was in this spirit that she welcomed Gary, Archie and Alex to her life.

Ofelia was a woman of deep faith, unwavering loyalty to her family, and a spirit that was both fiercely independent and wonderfully head-strong. She had a sly sense of humor that would surprise you and made it impossible not to laugh along with her.

Music was one of her great joys, especially the songs of El Buki, which were often the soundtrack to moments spent at home. She had a creative soul and loved drawing, painting, and crafting—always finding joy in making something beautiful with her hands. Never one to be rushed, “’Perame, ’perame,” became an often-used phrase. And if there was a hushed conversation happening nearby, chances are Ofelia heard it—eavesdropping was one of her well-practiced specialties, something she carried out with sly curiosity.

Above all else, Ofelia loved being surrounded by her family. The time spent together—talking, laughing, sharing meals, and simply being present—meant everything to her. She leaves behind a family who will forever carry her humor, her strength, her creativity, and her love in their hearts. Though she will be deeply missed, the memories she created and the joy she shared will continue to live on in every gathering, every song, and every story told about her.

Her life was a reminder that faith, family, and laughter are among life’s greatest gifts.

También le sobreviven sus hermanos Eleazar, Arnulfo, Yolanda, María Elena, Enriqueta y Beatriz, junto con muchas sobrinas y sobrinos a quienes nunca consideró menos que sus propios hijos.
