Shirley Kay Harris was born December 5,1947 in Hulett, WY to Frank and Irene Fowlkes, beloved sister to Chuck, Toy, Dennis, Dee and Mary. The family moved throughout South Dakota and Wyoming before Shirley graduated from Sturgis High School. She went on to earn her Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Black Hills State College but soon found that her most professional joy and talent was in bookkeeping, enjoying a long career in that field.
Shirley was blessed with two children, Douglass Dean and Tamra La Ree, raising them throughout South Dakota and Wyoming. In 1985 she and her children moved to Phoenix, AZ where her life became even more enriched with many grandchildren and a great granddaughter. She was a giver, kindhearted and told the funniest stories.
Aside from the deep love for her family, Shirley was a devoted Christian, reading her Bible daily. Her favorite Bible book was: Isaiah
Shirley's passing leaves profound sadness and loss among so many. She is survived by her daughter, Tamra La Ree Rohde (Jon), her grandchildren: Brianna, Carlos Kaleb, Gabe, Jacob, Aaron, Douglas Dale Brenda Michele and Cayden her great-grandaughter, Julianne Faith; her brother Chuck (Ula) from Sturgis; sister Toy from Billings, MT, and sister Mary. She also leaves behind many nephews and nieces who recall her as being the "fun Aunt" who spoiled them all crazy with love, joy, generosity and compassion. Awaiting her arrival in Heaven are her son, Douglass, her parents, Frank and Irene, and brothers, Dee and Dennis.
Services will be held in Sturgis, SD on July 13, 2019.
Shirley's final resting place will be among those who have gone before her on Moore Hill just outside of Hulett, WY. A family gathering will take place there on June 13. Keep praying for us Shirley!
