Abraham Alan Rand

.Abraham Alan Rand, 83, passed away at his home in Toms River after a lengthy illness surrounded by loving family and friends on March 15, 2017. He is survived by his wife Joan Solomon Rand, sister Beverly Morrison and brother Saul Rand(Margaret) and his children Steven Sussman ( Michelle),

Kevin Rand(Jill), Tammy Breen( Michael), Darren Rand, Brett Rand (Daniela) and his grandchildren Scott, Maya, Megan, Jared, Paige, Carly, Joshua, Andrew, Brian, Shawn(Lauren), Raquel, Keith (Sarah), great-grandson, Benjamin and many adoring nieces and nephews who will always remember him as the storyteller of the Rand family. He was predeceased by his younger sister Sheila Rand Solomon and his parents Pauline and Louis Rand.

Born in Passaic on March 17, 1933 he graduated from Clifton High School and went on to attend theAlbany College of Pharmacy where he graduated as a pharmacist and then went on to serve in the Army as a pharmacist and medic in Panama. Stationed in Fort Dix for a short time, Alan traveled to the Toms River area on weekends for recreation. He saw great potential in the area and decided to open up his own pharmacy business in Toms River after being discharged from the army. In November of 1959, in the Silverton section of Toms River, sparsely populated at the time and essentially a summer resort area, Alan opened Rand’s Pharmacy. He was truly a pioneer in the early days of Toms River and operated a successful business there for over 20 years. After selling his business in Toms River, he was employed as a pharmacist for Thrift Drugs in the Tuckerton area before he retired. Alan loved telling stories about his army days and was quick to give a tip or offer advice on life. He enjoyed sports, going to Atlantic City, a great corned beef sandwich, but most of all, spending time with his family. His kind, gentle spirit, big heart, and warm sense of humor will be missed by his family and friends.

Services will be held at Menorah Cemetery, 601 Passaic Avenue in Clifton, NJ on Sunday, March 19 th , 2017 at 11:30 in the morning. Donations in Alan Rand’s memory can be made to the charity of your choice.
