Bernard Scheierman

Bernard “Bernie” Scheierman, 94, of Toms River, passed away Monday, March 2, 2026, at Alcoeur Gardens, Toms River. He was born on April 4, 1931 in Long Branch to Lillian (neé Kaffler) and Samuel Scheierman. Raised in Long Branch, he attended Long Branch High School and Brookdale Community College. He moved to Red Bank before settling in Toms River in 1966 to raise his family. He was a professional musician: a pianist, percussionist, band leader, music arranger, and a lifetime member of the American Federation of Musicians, Local 399 since 1960. He was employed in wine sales with Gallo Wine from 1971 until his retirement in 2005. He was known for his dedication, warm personality, and the relationships he built throughout his career. Above all else, Bernie was a devoted family man. He loved music, baseball, and cooking, and nothing brought him more joy than caring for his family. Whether preparing his chicken wings or baked salmon, listening to the music of Stan Kenton, Tito Puente and Charlie Palmieri, or Alec Wilder, or watching a ball game, he treasured the simple moments spent with those he loved. He also enjoyed photography, bird watching, his iPad, and traveling in retirement.

Bernie was predeceased by his beloved wife of 51 years, Marilyn Scheierman (neé Rothenberg), who passed in 2014. Their long marriage was the foundation of the family they built together. He is survived by his daughter Mindy (Scheierman) Tarantino and son-in-law Christopher; daughter Pamela Scheierman; and extended family and friends who will miss his steady presence, warmth, and devotion.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the compassionate staff of Alcoeur Gardens, Toms River, for their attentive care and kindness during his final days. 

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on March 4, 2026, at Congregation B'nai Israel, 1488 Old Freehold Rd, Toms River, NJ 08753. A Committal Service will follow on March 4, 2026, at B'nai Israel Memorial Park Cemetery, 1224 W Whitty Rd, Toms River, NJ 08755, US.
