

Charles Herman, 74, of Forked River, NJ, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 18th at Hampton Ridge Healthcare & Rehabilitation, in Toms River, NJ. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Born July 12th, 1950, in Newark, Charles was the beloved son of Yetta and Leonard Herman. Charles attended Memorial High School in Cedar Grove, NJ and then went on to Fairleigh Dickinson University for his undergraduate studies. He continued his education at Sam Houston State in Houston, TX where he earned his Master’s Degree and completed his internship. This began a career in law enforcement which he took great pride in. He started out as a Correctional Officer in the Texas Department of Corrections and then became a Probation Officer. He worked his way up to Supervising U.S. Probation Officer for the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. Charles proudly dedicated 40+ years of his life to public service, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues and those he worked with.
Outside of his professional life, Charles was a loyal and lifelong Giants and Yankees fan, having remained a Giant season ticket holder for 35+ years. In addition, he enjoyed a wide variety of activities including travel, golf, skiing, photography and was deeply committed to making a difference in the lives of others, dedicating several years volunteering at a suicide and crisis lifeline. He also cherished the time spent with his family and friends.
Charles is survived by his sister, Sherry Mirsky and her husband Mitch, of Toms River, NJ, his nephews Brian Mirsky and wife Wendy of Brick NJ, along with their children Miranda and Veronica; and Seth Mirsky and wife Kim of Framingham, MA, along with their children Danielle and Madelynn; and many cousins and their families. He also is survived by his girlfriend Sherry Cichy. Charles was preceded in death by his mother Yetta; father, Leonard; and older brother, Sandy. He will be missed dearly by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Visitation will be held on January 24 from 9-11 at Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home at 703 Main St. in Toms River, NJ. Burial will follow and take place at 12 noon at Beth Israel Cemetery, located at 1098 Woodbridge Center Dr. in Woodbridge, NJ.
