Charles Ronald “Ronnie” Poll, 83, of Berkeley Township, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, January 31, 2025 surrounded by his wife and children. Born in Newark, he lived with his wife in Union for four years before moving to Howell where they raised their family for 39 years. In 2007, he and his wife moved to their current home.
Ronnie worked for Good Deal Supermarkets in Maplewood for 19 years as Store Manager, District Manager and ultimately Assistant Vice President. He also worked for D&E Foods for 20 years and Steiner Foods for 6 years before retiring in 2003.
Ronnie was known to his family and friends as Mr. Rock n’ Roll. Not only did he love listening to Doo Wop music, he never missed an opportunity to entertain. He was often seen taking the microphone himself so he could showcase his own amazing vocal talent. And everyone loved it. He also loved horse racing and could often be found at nearby racetracks on Saturdays, because Sundays were reserved for football. His love of horse racing culminated with the opportunity to jointly own his own racehorse called Nothing Fancy. One of his happiest moments was standing in the winning circle. Ronnie was loved by many and will be sorely missed.
Ronnie is survived by his loving wife Maryjane of 60 years and his four children: Debbie (Greg), Ronnie (AnneMarie), Kimberly (Sal) and Suellen (Joe). He is also survived by 11 grandchildren: Joseph, Lauren, Connor, Liam, Emily, Sean, Pietro, Emmaleigh, Joseph, Isabella and Elena; four great grandchildren: Madison, Maeve, Indigo and Mitchell and also many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, Charles and Dorothy and his sister, Patty.
