

Colette Mitchell, 98 of Toms River, passed away on April 2, 2026, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Colette was born in Paris, France, coming to the United States in 1940 at the age of 12 and settling with her parents in New York City. She resided in Toms River for 62 years. Colette loved learning, earning an undergraduate degree from Brooklyn College.
Colette was a remarkable woman who deeply loved her family, the arts, literature, culture, conversing in French, swimming, playing tennis and taking advantage of all life had to offer. She certainly had a zest for life! She will be remembered for the pride she had in her large family, traveling, being very inquisitive and a role model. But most of all, the love for her grandchildren, shown by the time and energy she invested to help make them the extraordinary adults they became.
A wonderful and loving wife, mother, grandma, great grandma and friend, Colette was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Art and her son, David in 2009. She will be deeply missed by her 6 children and their spouses, 11 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be held graveside at 2:00pm Monday, April 6th at B’Nai Israel Memorial Park, Whitty Road, Toms River. In Colette’s memory, donations may be made to the David Mitchell Memorial Scholarship Fund, in care of Mitchell Family 38 Patrician Drive, Toms River, NJ 08753
