Cristina Giovine, 84, of Toms River, NJ passed away peacefully on August 23, 2023 surrounded by her loved ones. Cristina was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey on August 10, 1939. She was predeceased by her parents Benito and Mercedes Fernandez and her brother Benito.
Known by friends as “Tina G,” she will be remembered for her generous heart and adventurous spirit. When not jet-setting around the globe with friends, she was often seen sporting around town in her signature cherry red Jeep Grand Cherokee with her West Highland Terriers in tow. She was a bowler, bridge player, and proud volunteer for many local organizations for which she cared deeply.
Incapable of winking nonchalantly, Tina was a master of scoring last minute Broadway tickets, propagating impatiens, and exuding exceptional style. An exemplary cook, Tina would often open her home for holidays with family and friends.
Raised in Linden, Cristina was a public high school teacher in Scotch Plains, NJ. She was a graduate of Otterbein College, where she was once crowned Homecoming Winter Princess. She also received a Master’s Degree from New York University. She later married Hon. Peter J. Giovine and relocated to Toms River where she raised her three surviving children, Cristina Rose, Peter James and Ben Louis Giovine.
She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Lauren Giovine, by Whitney Ayers, the partner of Peter James, and by her two grandchildren, Luca James, and Olivia Marie Giovine. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law Geraldine Fernandez, Rose Marie Giovine, Patricia Giovine and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends and relatives at Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main Street, Toms River on Sunday August 27, 2023 from 2pm - 5pm. Funeral services will be held at the Presbyterian Church of Toms River Monday August 28, 2023 at 11:00am.
