Dorothy A. Van Blarcom

Dorothy A. VanBlarcom—affectionately known as Dot, Gramma Dot, or Madre’—age 86, of Wrightstown, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on September 9, 2025, at the Hampton Ridge Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center.

In celebration of her beautiful life, a memorial service will be held on November 1, 2025—Dot’s 87th birthday—from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Horizon Funeral Home Chapel, 1329 Route 37 West, Toms River, NJ.

Dot will be remembered as a woman whose greatest gift was love. She gave it freely—to her family, her friends, and even to strangers who soon became friends. Her kindness, compassion, and gentle spirit touched the lives of everyone she met.

Born in Manhattan, NY, Dot spent most of her life in New Jersey. She was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Frank “Yogi” VanBlarcom; her youngest daughter, Monica “Birdie”, and her past roommate and sister, Joan “Chickie” Spulock.

She is survived by her children: Glen (Carleen) of Wolcott, CT; John (Mary) of Oak Ridge, NJ; Elizabeth (Ken) Fish of Waretown, NJ; Rhonda (Gary) Wood of Wrightstown, NJ; and Debbie (Lenny) Kenny of Browns Mills, NJ. She also leaves behind 18 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren, her beloved sister Karen “Cookie” of Washington State, extended family members including her brother-in-law Vincent “Tippy” VanBlarcom of Delaware, and many dear friends who will forever hold her in their hearts.

Dot’s legacy is one of love, laughter, the preparation of hearty meals for many, her abounding generosity, and selflessness. She taught those around her that family is not only who you are born to, but also who you welcome into your life. Her open heart and warm smile will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
