Bishop Edward J. Black Jr. age: 72, of Pelican Island section of Toms River, died Monday, September 5, 2011 at Holiday Care Center, Toms River.
Born in Trenton, NJ to the late Edward and Mary Black. He is survived by his dear sister, Ella Black Rice, his nieces Marie and Annie of Pelican Island; nephew John and wife Sandy of Forked River; great nieces Maggie and Jackie and great nephew John and Godson John and his wife Inge Bachalis of Yardley, Pa; as well as friends and faithful church members.
Father Ed served as a Chaplain to the Trinity Cathedral Children's Outreach Program under the Very Reverend Lloyd G. Chattin. Following Seminary graduation he was ordained in the Traditional Old Catholic Church of Utrecht. He enthusiastically served in the Ocean County, NJ area as a Priest, organist and choir director as well as many nursing homes and at the Church of St. Francis, Toms River, NJ. He was a Chaplain and administrative member of The Tri-Boro First Aid Squad in Seaside Park for many years. After being ordained a Bishop, he served faithfully until his retirement and illness spending his later years as Interim Pastor of The Pine Beach Chapel, Pine Beach, NJ and at the Holiday Care Center in Toms River.
Funeral Services are under the care of Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main St. Toms River. The visitation will be held Thursday, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Friday, at the Pine Beach Chapel, located at Huntington and Hillside Avenues. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Tri-Boro First Aid Squad, P.O. BOX 98, Seaside Park, NJ 08752 as well as to The Pine Beach Chapel, 501 Huntington Ave. Pine Beach, NJ 08741.
