George “Georgey” James Seylaz, age 61 & resident of Whiting, NJ- went home to be with the Lord on June 2, 2022. He was surrounded by those who love him in his home after facing a difficult illness with such strength and grace to the very end. Despite facing incredible trials with his health for many years, he continued to laugh and never once complained.
Born on May 9, 1961 in Long Branch, NJ, he was the amazing son to the late Jerry and Judy Seylaz. He grew up in Harrison, NJ, graduating from Harrison High School and later in life moved to Whiting, NJ. George was an avid fan of going on road trips with his best friends & family at a moments notice, watching WCW and frequenting his favorite restaurants like Gina’s Pizza, White Castle & Dickie-Dees.
For over 20 years, George was a faithful team member of the de-icing team for UPS in Newark Airport. He genuinely looked forward to every snowstorm because he could work with what he considered family. Additionally, he was a longtime member of Calvary Temple International in Wayne, NJ and loved to volunteer every chance he could get. For example, George was on the sound team as well as the driver for the volunteers for Royal Family Kids Camp, an at-risk youth camp for over 20 years. There truly was not one need that George would say no to for friends or family.
Although he volunteered for his entire adult life, his true calling was treasuring time with family and friends, especially being “Papa George” to his grandson. He made it a point to spread kindness and his infectious loud laugh wherever he went. George was the true definition of unconditional love...as a brother, as a father, as a son, as a friend. He defined selflessness and unwavering support. To meet him for five minutes was to know him -he truly never met a stranger.
George is now reunited with his father and mother, Jerry and Judy Seylaz as well as his grandmothers, Stella Seylaz & Viola Murray, and Uncles Patrick and Michael Murray. He is survived by his siblings – Laura Seylaz, Tracey Seylaz Parlacoski & Bryan Geruntho, his daughters Katelyn & Ashley Seylaz and grandson RJ Seylaz. Additionally, he is remembered by his best friends or what George viewed as brothers, Leon Sumter, Isaac “Ike” Nazario and Rev. Harley Mulligan as well as his several nephews, aunts, extended family & friends.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Calvary Temple International at 1111 Preakness Ave, Wayne, NJ, 07470 on Sunday June 12, 2022 at 2PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations are welcome in George’s honor for Royal Family Kids Camp – donations & checks can be sent to Calvary Temple International at above address with RFKC in the memo line.
