He was born in Newark, NJ on January 28, 1944.
He was the fourth child born to the now deceased, George and Arsmonia Grace.
After living most of his life in Newark, he also lived many years in Irvington, NJ.
In his early years, he attended elementary school until about the age of 10 or 11, and then he attended a school for special needs children until about the age of 18. After that, he participated in Occupational Therapy Programs until about the age of 21. After that, he primarily remained at home under the care of his mother.
His late mother, Arsmonia, loved reading and studying the Bible, and as a result, while George was still in his pre-teen years, she dedicated herself to a life of service to Jehovah God. Our mother did her utmost, to instill a love for the Bible, and it’s principles into her five children. It resulted in George’s happily embracing what he had been taught from the Bible by her. As a result, at the age of 17 in the year 1961, George, of his own resolve, underwent Christian Baptism---becoming recognized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
For many years, George faithfully continued his reading and studying of the Bible, attending and participating in congregation meetings, and eagerly sharing in preaching the Bible’s message of good news---doing so, from door-to-door, and in the “street work” ministry. His favorite scriptures that he would like to read to people in the ministry, were Psalms 37:10,11 and John 17:3. Despite his physical and mental challenges, George faithfully, and eagerly took part in all the Christian activities he could participate in, until he gradually was no longer able to so.
George loved people, and thrived on being around them and interacting with them.
A lot of times, he would innocently butt in on conversations of people that he knew---offering his “two cents” as it were.
Often, when he would go over to the homes of nearby relatives and friends, his mom would tell him, to “do not overstay your welcome“. But many times he would do so anyway, and those he was visiting, would patiently, make him feel welcome. Mom would then make a phone call to those he was visiting, to “tell him to come home”. Or she would send one of the other kids to get him, and bring him home.
It was in 2005 that George first became a nursing home resident in Union, NJ.
In 2011, he became a resident of the first of two nursing homes, he would reside at here in Ocean County, NJ, until his departure. Thankfully though, he was able to have some independence for about the first 12 years of his being a resident, due to the fact that he was able to get around the homes himself in a wheelchair. He continued to enjoy having interaction, now with the residents and staff members to a large extent. He enjoyed participation in various activities at the homes, like playing bingo. He especially enjoyed though, the activities that in involved recorded and live music.
Most importantly though, as long as his faculties allowed him, he always delighted in talking about Jehovah, and expressing his love for Him! Also on many occasions, he would ask about how the brothers and sisters in the congregation were doing. When he was still able to be visited, before the pandemic, he would frequently ask of us, while visiting him to: “Read something to me from the Bible about Jehovah---not about Satan!”
George was predeceased by his oldest brother, James Edward.
He is survived by his sister, Marie Louise; his brother Ralph Dolphus (and his wife Suzan); and his brother, Larry Darnell.
He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and relatives.
