Helen Ann Fordyce was born to Harold Mark and Thelma Applewhite in the beautiful twin island of Trinidad & Tobago. She was the second daughter to the couple and sister to Wayne, Anthony, Gregory and Jenny. Helen was married to Clayton Fordyce in 2012. Although she had no children of her own, she was the best aunt and surrogate mom to nieces, Danielle (D), Darcel, Jessica, Jillian, Keone, Keilah and nephews Arvid, Akil, Gregory and Kendall.
Always being driven by her confidence, assertiveness and brilliance Helen excelled in secondary school as a youngster and set her sights on achieving an advanced degree early on. Those pursuits brought her to live in Canada briefly before migrating in 1990 to the United States, where she worked as a nanny in Brooklyn NY. After leaving New York, she settled in Lakewood NJ and finally achieved her Bachelor’s degree from Ocean County College in 2006 and eventually earned her BSN in nursing. Helen lived and worked in Tom’s River New Jersey as a healthcare professional after accepting a job with Bayada, where she was employed until her untimely passing. Her work ethic and dedication was always noticed and respected by her peers who worked closely with her.
Helen was always the no nonsense big, little sister who provided a listening ear and unwavering support to her siblings, cousins, and extended family. She was the epitome of grace, sophistication and wholeheartedly embraced her ““rich auntie” and soft girl lifestyle that she worked hard to attain. She loved being a home body but was always open to extended family visits in the summer to grill and swim with her grand nephews Essah and Bakari.
In the afternoon of January 29th, Helen lost her short battle with head and neck cancer after only being diagnosed in the Spring of 2024. She had her family always by her side in life and death, a testimony to her beautiful spirit and selflessness. Her beautiful smile lit up any room and her generosity knew no bounds. Helen will be forever loved and missed.
A visitation for Helen will be held Thursday, February 6, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main Street, Toms River, NJ 08753, followed by a service at 12:00 PM.
