Iris Dawn Stern

Iris was born on November 7th 1935 in NYC, daughter of Rose and David Rifkin of Manhattan. Iris attended The Fashion Institute of Technology in Manhattan for design and worked in various fashion houses prior to her marriage to Murray Stern in 1959.

Iris took on her next chapter in life which were her children Richard and Lori. Richard her son was born Dec 13th 1961. Her daughter Lori was born Jul 18th 1965. Lori showed an early affinity for ice skating and as a dutiful mother she would wake up at 4 to take Lori for ice skating lessons by 5AM. While Iris took Lori to skate, Richard also showed a keen interest and ability. She then would take them both and Richard became an ice hockey fan and is still plays today. She also taught Richard some guitar chords who then became interested in music and today he is a guitarist in a local Jazz and R&R band that plays in and around Asbury Park, NJ.

Iris was influential in everyone’s life whether directly or indirectly. She will be missed by all who knew her and loved her. Her husband Murray of 59 years passed on Aug 23rd 2018 of natural causes.

Iris is survived by her children, her 2 wonderful talented grand-daughters, Danica and Sydney, her brother Elliott his wife Lisa their children Jaime, Renee, David and her sisters in law, Joan and Lorraine.

A memorial gathering, celebration of life was held on Wednesday January 6th in her brother’s home.
