

John was born in New York City on October 11, 1945, to James and Johanna Barnable. John graduated in 1962 from Harron High School in NYC. John served proudly in the Army in Vietnam as a Front line Communication Specialist from 1966-1968. John retired from his positions as salesman and then Vice President in the corrugated box industry.
In addition to his own children John coached many Toms River youths in both hockey and baseball. He grew up loving and playing sports such as roller hockey in the streets, softball and baseball. He was on the farm team for the Cincinnati Reds. He was an avid softball player in the 70s and 80s and hit a home run against Eddie Feigner of King and his Court. John had a passion for golf later on in life.
John met Genevieve Pappas (Tina) in 1961 and married in 1966. They welcomed their son John in 1967 and daughter Kristin in 1970. John moved his family from Lodi to Toms River in 1971.
Predeceased by brother-in-law Donald Gaffney, Nephew/Godson Donald Gaffney Jr.
Survived by his wife of 59 years Genevieve (Tina), son John Jr, daughter Kristin (Brian), grandchildren Danny, Jason, Jess, Leah and Sarah, brother James (Lorraine) and sister Joanne. Nieces and nephews Jimmy, Linda, Hanna, Billy, Bethanne, Michael, Sean and Suzy. And lifelong friend John Meier.

A visitation for John will be held Thursday, September 18, 2025 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main Street, Toms River, NJ 08753. A funeral mass will occur Friday, September 19, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 685 Hooper Ave, Toms River, NJ 08753. A committal service will occur Friday, September 19, 2025 from 12:30 PM to 12:45 PM at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery, 350 Province Line Rd, Wrightstown, NJ 08562.
