Born on April 10, 1941, to Ernest A. and Ruth Larson in Keene, NH, Jon is predeceased by his parents, sister Gretchen Bedard, the love of his life, wife, and best friend of 56 years, Judith, and son Jon Michael Larson.
Jon H. Larson resided in Toms River for the last 26 years and is survived by his sisters Nancy Harman of Yarmouth, ME and Martha Cabot of Sebring, FL; daughter, Kristina Marie (Hebb) Larson of Virginia Beach, VA, and son, David Alan Larson (Angela) of Mitchell, GA.; four grandchildren, Michael and Zachary Hebb, Jeannie Hines (Morris), and Ryan Cannon (Justene); seven great grandchildren, Ovella, Luke, Addison, and Nathaniel Hines, LeeAni, Raelyn, and Amelia Cannon.
Jon was a proud veteran and served as Platoon Leader/Company Commander, United States Army, 63rd Armored Battalion, 1st Infantry Division in Fort Riley, Kansas, from 1964-1966. He was an Alumni of Norwich University. Jon worked in multiple roles for Berkshire Community College, Pittsfield, Massachusetts, from 1972-1977. He worked for Frederick Community College, Frederick, Maryland, from 1977-1997 and served as the Vice President of Administration/Dean of Institutional Services. He served as President of Luzerne Community College in Nanticoke, Pennsylvania, from 1997-2000 before taking his “dream job” of 23 years, as President of Ocean County College in Toms River, New Jersey from 2000-2023. Jon devoted his working life to making Ocean County College a better institution than when he arrived there. He was forever grateful for his many friends and colleagues in the community. Although Jon was extremely proud of his work, his true purpose in life was taking care of his family and cats.
Funeral arrangements have been made through the Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main Street, Toms River, with visitation from 6-9p.m. on Friday, November 21, 2025.
Interment and burial service will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a contribution to your local “no kill” animal shelter or cancer charity in Jon’s memory.
