Joseph Anthony Mayer

Joseph A. Mayer, 83, of Manahawkin, NJ, passed away at home on May 23, 2017. He was born in Newark and raised in Union. He moved to Manahawkin 16 years ago. Joseph was a proud Air Force Veteran of the Korean War. He worked as a Yard Supervisor for over 25 years before retiring from Suburban Propane in Bound Brook. Joseph was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman, and enjoyed the time he spent with his family.

Joseph was predeceased by his daughter Maureen Mayer in 2013, and his parents Michael & Madeline Mayer. He is survived by his loving son Michael and his wife Lisa; his grandsons: Gregory, Daniel, Steven, and Matthew; his former wife and friend Gwen Mayer; and his two brothers: Michael and his wife Louise, and Richard and his wife Angie.

Visitation will be Tuesday, May 30th, from 3 to 7 p.m. with a service at 5:30 p.m., at the Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main Street, Toms River, NJ 08753. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, May 31st at 11AM, at Wilson Memorial Union Church, 7 Valley Road, Watchung, NJ 07059. Cremation will be private. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Joseph’s memory.
