Kathy Ann Slater

She was born in Point Pleasant, NJ, and was a lifelong resident of Toms River. She graduated from Toms River High School South in 1976 and attended Ocean County College. She was employed for over 40 years at Community Medical Center in Toms River, the Visiting Nurses Association of Monmouth-Ocean County and also worked at The Olde Time Tavern of Toms River.

She is predeceased by her maternal grandparents Ruth and P.A. (Sonny) Allen; her paternal grandmother Frieda Preston; her father Albert T. Slater, stepfather Allen Detwiler, her husband Robert Ordonez, and her bonus sister Natalie Detwiler. She is survived by her mother, Barbara Detwiler; her daughter Rachel Ordonez and her fiancé Paolo Mancini; her sons Brian Ordonez and Bill Facciponte; her granddaughters Emma Facciponte and Riley Mancini; her brothers Thomas Slater and his wife Joan Marie, Stephen Slater and Mark Slater; bonus sisters Allisen Detwiler and Jessica Detwiler-Polozzo, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Kathy was always happiest being outside. Kathy was an avid cycling enthusiast taking place in the Five Boros Bike Tour and many other cycling events. She enjoyed kayaking at the Jersey Shore, camping with her family and the many hours she spent walking her dog Ruby in Browns Woods, across the street from where she grew up.

The light of her life were her children and her granddaughters. She lived for her family and loved family get-togethers.

Viewing will be Wednesday, November 18 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Horizon Funeral and Cremation Services, 1329 Route 37 West, Toms River, NJ. 08755. Burial will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph's Cemetery, Hooper Avenue, Toms River. In celebration of Kathy, her family will be wearing purple to her proceedings. Others attending may do the same if they would like.
