

Phyllis Portee was born in Elizabeth City, North Carolina on December 11th 1939 to parents Charles Lee Reid and Olivia Case Reid. She attended Cleveland County School System in North Carolina. After her High School graduation in 1957, Phyllis and her family relocated to Asbury Park NJ, where she enrolled in business school. In 1959 she met her first husband James Wallace, and through that union Kevin Wayne Wallace and Andrea D. Wallace were born.
She was a people person. She loved meeting and interacting with people from all walks of life and they loved being in her company. Phyllis was always friendly and inviting. She always was willing to listen and give the best advice she could. That became her catalyst to become a Drug and Alcohol Counselor at Spring House in Bergen County after getting her certification at Essex County College. She was employed there from 1984-1999.
She met the Love of her life as she referred to him as her Soul Mate, Mr. Robert Preston Portee. They Married in 1974 in Asbury Park, NJ. They were Directors at the Men's Homeless Shelter from 1973-1975.
Phyllis is predeceased by her parents Charles L. Reid and Olivia C Reid, her husband Robert P. Portee, her loving son Kevin Wayne Wallace, and sister Sonja Francis.
She is survived by her loving daughter Andrea Wallace-Cooper, her sister Charlene Joyner, and brother in-law Eddie Joyner, a host of nieces and nephews and family members, and all the friends she has met along the way.
Phyllis Portee will be interred in her final resting place at Calverton National Cemetery, 210 Princeton Blvd., Calverton, NY, 11933, next to her loving husband Robert P. Portee. A graveside Memorial will take place at a later date and will be updated on the website.
