

He was born in Camden, NJ on July 30, 1944. He moved to Ortley Beach as a young boy. He was a member of the local Drum and Bugle Corps as a drummer for many years. He graduated from Toms River High School in 1963. He attended and graduated from Tri City Barber School in Philadelphia in 1964. After graduation he worked for Walt Johnson at Walt's Barber Shop in Toms River. He later purchased Walt's shop in 1974 which became Jerry's Barber Shop soon thereafter.
Jerry and his first wife Susan Woods raised their three children in the Brookside section of Toms River. He was an active member of the Toms River Rotary Club which he was the first member to be President twice. He also received three Paul Harris Fellowship Awards. He was an avid fisherman, boater and racquetball player and was a pillar of the community of Toms River. He led by example and all three of his children became barbers and are actively carrying on his legacy in the community.
He was predeceased by his parents Ralph and Diana Simpson, his sister Susan Uldrich and brother-in-law Art Simpson.
He is survived by his wife Donna Lee Simpson of Ellenton, Fl ; his children Michelle Sundburg and husband Bill, Scott Simpson and his wife Lysa and Craig Simpson and wife Roxanne; sisters Diana Simpson and Irene Muller and husband Lou. He is also survived by three step children Aaron (Lisa), John (Christina) and April. Jerry was proud of his seven grand children and one great grandchild as well as many nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held Friday, June 6, 2025 from 5:00 to 9:00 PM at Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main St. Toms River.
