Richard D. Byrd

Born March 13th, 1947 to Martha (Winn) and Lavester (Bill) Byrd, Rick grew up in Illinois, upstate New York and finally settled in New Jersey with his three younger siblings Donna, Mic, and Deb.

Rick began his professional career as a salesman in the dental supply industry and later transitioned into electronic production equipment and materials. After ending a long and successful career in sales, Rick opened a franchise with Home Video Studio where he channeled his lifelong hobby of photography into preserving others’ photos and videos for future generations to enjoy. His family is so grateful to have Rick’s vast collection of family, landscapes, pets and other photos as a reminder of him and their happy times together. In addition to photography Rick’s other passions included golfing, fishing, music, the New York Giants and the New York Yankees. Rick also possessed a wonderfully irreverent sense of humor and there was no joke too off-color for him.

Rick was married to Carol Byrd (Belanger) for 45 years. He had two children from a previous marriage, his daughter Stacey and his son Scott who both went on to marry Robert Hastings and Jessica Foss, respectively. Rick was a loving Grandpa to Stacey’s children Jack, Declan and Emma as well as Scott’s two children Milly and Emmet.

Rick will be greatly missed by his wife Carol; his children Stacey (Robert) and Scott (Jessica); his grandchildren Jack (25), Declan (23), Emma (17), Milly (3) and Emmet (1); his sister Donna (Andy), his brother Mic (Sharon), his sister Deb (Rick), three nieces, four nephews and his beloved pets Tanner and Sunshine. He was predeceased by his parents, aunts and uncles, 4 cousins and his niece Lindsay Roy.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations will be given to the Visiting Nurses Association (Hospice) of Toms River.

A Celebration of Life will be on Saturday, June 8, 2024 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at the Manville Fire Company, 20 South 3rd Avenue, Manville, NJ 08835.
