

A former resident of Edison and Perth Amboy, Robert was a graduate of Perth Amboy High School Class of 1948. He earned a Degree in Journalism from Rutgers University in 1953. Following his service in the US Army, Bob worked for The News Tribune and its predecessor The Perth Amboy Evening News for thirty-six years.
He was a life - long supporter of Rutgers football. and could quote all the game scores from his college days.His phenomenal memory could provide World War Two battle dates, names of 1940 movie stars & the movies they were in, the names of all the US Presidents, in order, from Washington to Trump as well as the lineage of the British Royal Family. He loved classical music, his collection exceeded two hundred records.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents Russell and Clara Johnson, Brother Donald, Nephew Peter Allen Kantra and his Brother-in-law George A. Kantra. He is survived by his devoted Sister Nancy Kantra, Nieces Jill LaFave (Craig) and Amy Costello (Rick) and Great Nieces Kyleigh La Fave Greenleaf, Kendra & Julia La Fave, Kelsea, Lauren & Lindsey Costello and Great Nephews Jared La Fave & Ryan Costello. Never having had a family of his own, he was devoted to his Nieces and their families and Uncle Bob was VERY Special to them. Robert is also survived by his cousin and God Daughter Pamela Csipo Elmi.
