
Thomas J. Conway, (“TC”), 78, of Point Pleasant passed away on Tuesday March 14th. He was born on July 21, 1944, to Joseph and Agnes Conway and grew up in South Orange, NJ along with his twin brother John “Jack” Conway. Tom attended Columbia High School, then Seton Hall University which he graduated from in 1966. At Seton Hall, he was the Senior Class Representative to the Student Council and a member and officer of Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE) Fraternity. He always wore his fraternity ring. Since graduating, Tom has been a member of the Pirate Blue Club and an enthusiastic supporter of Seton Hall Basketball. Tom served in the United States Navy from 1966 to 1968 as an Asset Navigator on a Naval Destroyer. In 1968 he received the Navy Sailor of the Year award and was recommended for Officer Candidate School. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1971. After his discharge, Tom worked in sales for the 3M company during the 70s and early 80s and was promoted to District Manager, then to Area Sales Manager for the West Coast residing in Los Angeles, CA at the time. He later worked for the Norton Company where he again rose from Regional to National Sales Manager. In 1977 Tom settled in his old stomping grounds at the Jersey Shore. He resided in Brielle and Point Pleasant for the last 46 years.
Tom is survived by his son David Conway and daughter in law, Rini and grandchildren Rakesh and Ravi; his nephew John Conway and his wife Karen Conway; niece Stephanie Conway Gillespie and husband John Gillespie; niece Kristin Howley and wife Laurie Backall; and his great nieces and nephews: Brian, Kevin, Jack, Katie and Kelly Conway, Hannah and Grace Gillespie and Ivy and Jasper Backall. Tom had a number of close friends that were important to him during his life that he talked about regularly including Ed Hunoval, Joe Guariglia, Fred Sikora, Dave Gray, Bud Keegan, Bill Niziolek, Tom Scarpa, Bud Selander and Dick Morrissey. Tom also always cherished the many friends and memories he had from his favorite watering holes Rod’s and Dodd’s going back more than 50 years!
Visitation will be held from 3-6PM on Monday March 20th at Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home 703 Main St, Toms River. A Mass to celebrate Tom's life will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, March 21st at St. Joseph’s R.C. Church, 685 Hooper Ave. Toms River. Final Prayers and Military Honors will take place immediately following mass at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Toms River.
