He was born in New York, New York on September 17, 1930 and served in the Navy during the Korean War. He met the love of his life, Aurora Mendez, while stationed in Puerto Rico.
Upon his discharge from the Navy, Walter went to work at New Jersey Bell Telephone Company and raised his two sons, Randy and Mitchell in Dumont, NJ. Walter retired in 1992 and moved to a retirement community in Toms River, NJ where he lived until he passed. He never missed a game, dance recital or any event involving his grandchildren. Although he was born and raised Lutheran, Walter was very active with St. Anthony Claret Catholic Church in Lakewood. He was instrumental in making the stained glass windows that were used when they built a new church. He also ran the food pantry there, collecting food donations and handing them out to needy parishioners. All who knew him at St. Anthony's claimed he was really Catholic but didn't know it. Walter was a quiet, gentle soul who loved to be around friends and family. He will be dearly missed by everyone who got the chance to know him.
Walter was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Gerda Jacobs, his sister Doris Pearson and brothers Francis, Raymond and Ronny. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Aurora. His son Randy and wife Grace, their children Jessica, Ruben
and Christopher, all from Pennsylvania. His son Mitchell, his children, daughter Meryn Wardell and her husband Scott,
son Michael and his wife Aubrie and daughter Meghan and their mother Maryellen all from New Jersey. Great grandchildren Julius, Cooper and Alexis. Walter's grandchildren were the sparkle in his eye and the main reason he loved life so much. Walter also had many nieces and nephews both here in the states and in Puerto Rico.
At the family's wishes, services will be private. There will be a repass at a later date to accommodate family and friends traveling from out of state.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Walter's name to St. Anthony Claret Church, 780 Ocean Avenue, Lakewood, NJ, 08701.
