In his 90th year, Angelo Desiato passed away peacefully at Humber River Hospital on August 23, 2023. Predeceased by his cherished wife of 53 years, Albina. Angelo was a gentle and patient father and loving grandfather. He will be deeply missed by his children, Salvatore (Alba Spadafora) and Tonia (Manuel Santos). Beloved Nonno of Laura, Angelo, Rachel and Simon. Angelo was predeceased by his parents Salvatore and Antonietta Desiato and his adored sisters, Assunta (Vincenzo), Rosalia (Gennaro) and Maria (Antonio).
He will be sorely missed by his dearly loved sisters Cristina (Carmine) and Michelina (Dominic) and his brother, Rudy (Pina) as well as his brother-in-law Antonio (Maria) and sister-in-laws Ameris and Antonietta (Tony Sandrin).
He was loved and respected by his many nieces and nephews as he was kind and always interested to know what they were up to. He will be fondly remembered by his friends, cousins and relations in Toronto, BC and Italy.
As a 19-year-old, Angelo moved from his hometown of Maddaloni, Italy to Geneva, Switzerland to learn a trade before emigrating to Canada in 1957. After brief stints in Quebec City, Gananoque and Kingston, he eventually settled in Toronto where he worked as a grocer and skilled butcher alongside his wife Albina in the supermarket business for almost 40 years. His welcoming nature will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Angelo showed kindness to everyone and enjoyed the company of family and friends. Many recall the lingering visits at Angelo’s Supermarket or the family home on Ascot Avenue. He was a faithful parishioner and volunteer at St. Nicholas of Bari Church for 60 years.
At Weston Terrace Long Term Care he was surrounded by a caring community and, in his final weeks, the dedicated and compassionate staff at Humber River Regional Hospital took exceptional care of him. Visitation will take place on Sunday, August 27, 2023 at Jerrett Funeral Home- St. Clair Chapel (1141 St. Clair Ave., W. east of Dufferin St.) from 2-4 p.m and 6-8 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday at 10:30 am from St. Nicholas of Bari Church (1277 St. Clair Ave., W. Toronto.). Entombment to follow at Parklawn Cemetery (2845 Bloor St. W., Toronto). In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation in Angelo’s name to the Alzheimer’s Society or Kensington Health Centre (Hospice).
