Born in Asmara, Eritrea, Asefaw spent his youth in Ethiopia, where the foundation of his humble and resilient character was set. His life journey led him to join the Eritrean war in 1974, a period of challenge that also brought him his greatest joy: meeting his beloved wife, Alem Zere, in 1976. They married in 1977, forming a partnership that became the unshakeable foundation of his family.
Seeking peace and opportunity, Asefaw and Alem moved to Sudan in 1980 and, in 1983, made the momentous journey to Canada, where they built their future. He was the devoted patriarch who worked tirelessly to support his family, truly embodying the role of the head of the family in God’s eyes.
He will be profoundly missed by his beloved wife, Alem Zere, his children: Heyab, Meron and Tebletse and his cherished grandchildren: Jaleal, Tessabelle, Christian, and Gabriel.
Asefaw is joyfully reunited in heaven with his late son, Herui Zere.
He was known for his quiet presence, humble spirit, loving heart, and generous soul, always ready with a gentle humor. His legacy is the prosperous life he established for his loved ones in a new country.
