April 7, 1954 – September 9, 2025
Each one of us has a life journey to experience and share. Sadly, Barbara Jane Pimento’s journey came to an early and unexpected end on September 9, 2025.
Barb was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sibling, aunt, and friend. Survived by her husband Michael, children Taryn (Margo) and Taylor (Ian), and grandchildren Ivy and Aidan (with a third grandchild on the way), Barb left a legacy of love that lives on in her family.
Throughout her journey, Barb also built a legacy of care, from nurturing her own children and grandchildren to teaching thousands of Early Childhood Education students who then went on to care for many young children. Barb touched the lives of so many individuals as a professor at George Brown College and as co-author of a celebrated textbook on health, safety and nutrition in early childhood settings.
Even through health challenges over the last several years, Barb remained social, deeply empathetic, and vibrant. Her love for music ever-present, Barb was known for her disco dance moves in her youth, and breaking into song in the decades to follow, even when she forgot the words.
The family is grateful to the good friends who supported Barb, especially Pam, Lynn, Patti, Joanne, and Ian, and to the many capable health care professionals who provided care to Barb in her final days, including the Stroke, Palliative Care, and Nursing Teams at Toronto Western Hospital and the Palliative Care Team at the Toronto Grace Health Centre.
Memorials or donations can be made to SPRINT Senior Care, Toronto Western Hospital Memory Clinic, the Aphasia Institute, the Toronto Grace Palliative Care Unit, or The Alzheimer’s Society of Toronto, all of which supported Barb and Michael as her dedicated caregiver in recent years. Donations can also be made to the Early Childhood Education Academic Award scholarship fund at George Brown College.
A celebration of life will be held on September 24th, 2025, from 11am to 1pm at Rosar-Morrison Funeral Home & Chapel, 467 Sherbourne Street, Toronto, ON M4X1K5.
