Chai’s smile, laugh, and energy often took over a room, which is how we will remember him. Chai is survived by his two sons, Sanjiv and Prem and wife Priscila, who will miss his spark, his dedication and passion for his beliefs, and a heart of gold that many did not see.
Chai arrived in Canada in 1965, and lived a full life that spanned athletics (swimming, diving and tennis), four degrees (including three master’s), global activism (Brazil, the Hague, Spain, and more), dance, regular political candidacy and poetry slams.
In honor of Chai, we are including an excerpt from his original and most notable poem below. Chai’s dream was to spread his vision for sustainability far and wide, so we know he will smile upon your reading this:
Just One World:
Commandments of Global Survival
Just one world … Let us not blow it.
Just one icecap …Let us not flow it.
Just one globe … Let us not glow it.
Just one family …Let us not fight.
Just one race … Let us not discriminate.
Just one chance … Let us not miss it.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Science for Peace based in Toronto.
