The geographical journey of Pien's life began in Singapore, her country of birth, and took her to Melbourne, Australia, where she finished her schooling, and to the hometown of her heart, Vancouver. Her unbounded passion for reading, coupled with perpetual curiosity, led to a rewarding and fulfilling career as a librarian in Regina, Saskatchewan, and then Toronto, the city that she settled in and came to love.
Always appreciative of the simple pleasures of life, Pien was uniquely cheerful and continually optimistic, with a droll sense of humour and love of wordplay that endeared her to her friends. Her interests extended to film, travel and photography, with many of her experiences documented in thousands of photographs on the internet. Pien's undaunted enthusiasm for learning – whether trying to achieve an elusive fluency in French or a new recipe – and for exploring new horizons kept her ever young.
Her rich inner life was sustained by her abiding passion and fascination with the written word, travelling along with authors past and present and sustaining her connections with friends near and far with letters and jottings of her quiet, wry observations of people and places.
Softly and gently, she stepped lightly on this planet, and her generous and innocent spirit touched everyone she encountered on this journey of life. Our love and our prayers go with you on your new journey, dearest Pien.
