David Paul Waalen

Predeceased by his dear wife of fifty years Judith Kelly Waalen, David is survived by his sisters-in-law Linda Kelly-Hassett and Alice MacMurdo, his nieces Erin Kelly-Hassett and Melissa Ross and his goddaughters Shanna Walters, Laura Walters and Andrea Douglas. David was born and raised in North Battleford, Saskatchewan where he attended Connaught Elementary School and North Battleford Collegiate Institute. He subsequently graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a degree in Psychology. Dave met his wife Judy at the U of S and they were married on August 30, 1969, in Detroit, Michigan. At the time of their marriage, he was working for the Addiction Research Foundation (now CAMH) in Toronto and Judy took up teaching post in the Psychology Department of Ryerson Polytechnic Institute (now Toronto Metropolitan University), In 1973, David returned to school at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC) and after he graduated began practicing in Michigan while Judy fulfilled the requirements for her PhD in Sociology at Wayne State University. In 1980, they moved back to Toronto where David established a practice with a former CMCC classmate and Judy resumed her position at Ryerson.

In 1985, David was appointed to the faculty of CMCC and over the ensuing 18 years held a variety of teaching and academic administrative positions including Director of the Division of Clinical Sciences. During this time, he published a number of articles in scholarly journals related to chiropractic education, some of which were co- authored by his wife Judy. In 2003, David regretfully ended his association with CMCC due to the increasingly problematic symptoms of multiple sclerosis which had been troubling him for several years. A Celebration of life will be taking place at the Rosar-Morrison Funeral Home, 467 Sherbourne St. (at Wellesley St.) on Friday February 20, 2026 at 11:30 a.m. an interment to follow at the Toronto Necropolis .
