in Loving Memory of
DOROTHY ELLEN MORRIS
January 18, 1933 – April 27, 2025
Our beloved mother, Dorothy, passed away peacefully, on April 27, 2025, at the age of 92, in Moncton, New Brunswick, her residence of the past 20 years, when the Lord called her home to His garden in heaven.
Born January 18, 1933, in Toronto, Ontario, to the late Arthur and Ethel (née Elliott) Morris, Dorothy grew up primarily in The Junction area and graduated from Toronto Western Technical-Commercial High School in 1951. Over the years, she held a variety of clerical positions in both Toronto and Ottawa. In 1978, she returned to school and obtained her Accounting Certificate from Seneca College Ontario, eventually working at their Leslie Street campus as Office Co-ordinator for 14 years until her retirement.
Living mostly in areas of Ontario and Quebec, she eventually settled in New Brunswick with daughter Joanne and family. She loved to travel; Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, being one of her favourite place as it reminded her of her much-loved trip to Ireland.
Dorothy always enjoyed being an active member of the United Church of Canada. When her family was young, she taught Sunday school, was a church secretary, and throughout the years was an active member of the United Church Women (UCW), the women’s auxiliary.
After retirement, she followed in her father's footsteps as the self-appointed Family Genealogist, which she enjoyed for over three decades researching her parents’ family trees. She loved to cook, bake, sew, try any new craft going, and really enjoyed a hot steeped Tim’s tea. She enthusiastically loved to garden; Hollyhocks, were her favourite flower.
Hollyhocks, now in season, stand tall and radiant in fields and gardens, reminding us of the joy and warmth Dorothy brought into all our lives. Her smile was our daily sunshine; her love our perennial bloom.
Dorothy’s children: Joanne, Adam, and Stephanie, invite you to gather with them in a garden of memories and love, as we celebrate the radiant life of their dear Mom; also known as Nanny, sister, aunt, friend. Bring your favourite photo, story, or poem that reminds you of her, and perhaps, even wear something blue, her favourite colour, as we surround ourselves with the blossoms she loved so dearly – her family and friends.
INURNMENT to take place Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at 11:00AM at St James’ Cemetery, 635 Parliament St, Toronto; followed by a CELEBRATION OF LIFE GATHERING, also Tuesday, August 5, 2025, from 12:30PM – 4:00PM at Rosar-Morrison Funeral Home, 467 Sherbourne Street, Toronto.
