

Egidio was born and raised in Santo Stefano Di Rogliano in Cosenza, Calabria, Italy. He left home to serve in the Italian military. He later worked in Germany and then moved to Toronto in October 1964. Egidio was the first of his family to arrive in Toronto and successfully encouraged his brothers and parents to join him in Canada. Egidio then met his beloved wife Lucia in 1965 and they married in 1966. Egidio and Lucia celebrated over 58 years of marriage and created a family and a lifetime of cherished
memories.
Egidio held many different occupations upon arriving in Toronto. Egidio was a Head Caretaker for over 25 years with the Toronto District School Board. His hard work was recognized and he made many friendships. He was extremely proud of of his work.
Upon retirement Egidio remained active gardening, fixed whatever needed to be fixed, helped and visited family and friends. Throughout his life, Egidio loved hosting countless parties at the house where he would enjoy sharing his homemade wine, cured meats and home grown vegetables. Egidio’s happy place was his home and his garden and his family meant everything to him. Egidio had a sharp mind, a quick wit, and was great with numbers.
Egidio is survived by his loving wife, Lucia; his children, Candida (Tony), Pina (Terry), Vince, Tony (Sylvia) and Gina (Maurizio); his grandchildren, Catherine (David), Antonette (Christian), Laura (Joe), Joseph, Chiara, Michael, Nathan, Leonardo, Audrey, Emma, Miles, and Rocky. He will be reunited with his parents, Candida and Giuseppe, as well as his brothers Mario and Franco. He is survived by his brother Antonio (Rosaria) and sisters-in-law Geltruda and Marianna.
Egidio is remembered and admired for his hard work, integrity and love of family. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. Egidio will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
Although flowers are appreciated, donations to the Sunnybrook Foundation in Egidio’s memory are welcomed.
